Do they have pop eye? Hope not.

Pop-eye
Cause
Unknown, but possibly fish tuberculosis, bacterial infection or even over saturation of dissolved oxygen.
Symptoms
Eye or Eyes protrude from their sockets.
Treatment
Difficult due to its unknown cause, general antibiotic.

I edited my previous post but it took forever to post. My computer is acting stupid tonight.

It does sound like pop eye and often they will lose the eye due to pressure behind it. Not easily treated either. It could also be due to an injury.

An antidiotic med but sometimes even that doesn't work but of course you want to try something. I have read that it might help to quarantine the fish and treat with Epsom salt but don't know how effective it is. You'll have to search it out and see if you can find the amount to use, etc, if you want to try it.

I read somewhere that this was caused by poor water quality. But i am not sure.

I have used this medicine - but not on Goldfish - it is supposed to be safe for them but I have no personal experience with it

I read your post quick Lady Hobbs and thought you told him to try an anti-idiotic med - tickled me funnybone

This may be Dropsy, which is caused by fluid imbalances, which in turn can be caused by a number of things. My books suggests that any treatment is ineffective, but then says "Mild cases may respond to medication with salt and a bactericide - isolate the affected fish in a hospital tank".

So, get it into its own tank, get some sea salt and an anti-bacterial medication, see what happens.

From the articles archive here on AC:

Pop eye, formally known as exophthalmia, can be caused by vitamin A deficiency, tumours, bacterial infection, gas embolism and rough handling. Pop eye caused by vitamin A deficiency can often be cured by an improved diet with more vitamin A. Pop eye caused by tumours or rough handling can be hard to do treat and it is unfortunately often up to the fish itself to try to recuperate from. Gas embolism and bacterial pop eye can often be treated with penicillin or amoxicillin.
