I have roughly 30 little fry running around in a 10gallon tank. They're fine for now, but eventually I'll have to find new homes for most of them. Does anybody have experience selling these back to a LFS or "big box" store? Or maybe even just to get store credit?
Honestly I don't even care if I get anything for them, I just want them to be OK once they outgrow my operations!

I asked once, and they said they would take them from me (assuming they had room in their tanks) but no store credit. Livebearers are unfortunately prolific enough that there is far more supply than demand. Most LFSs I've been in have their own livebearer fry cruising around in their tanks, and of course accepting from an outside source is a new potential for introducing disease.
So, you should ask, but probably not get your hopes up too high. You could always offer them for free on Craigslist or equivalent to see if anyone is interested.
Good luck!

Can't hurt to ask around. The most important thing will be to have them in top shape when you try to sell them. Your best bet is to provide a higher quality product than their current suppliers.
Store credit is usually what you'll get for them, unless it's a really small quantity (less than 5-10$), in that case you may get cash.

Depending on what stores you have around most LFS aren't going to give you much for the fish. Aside from Endlers and some colorful fancy guppy strains, livebearers are just too common, cheap and easy to breed for them to spend a lot. You might get some store credit but you'd have to ask around.
In my area, one common way to get rid of extra fish like this is on craigslist. People will often toss up ads for 5-6 mollies/guppies for $5-10 depending on the size and number.

Thanks for the replies.
Like I said before, I'm not looking to really get any money for these guys, although any compensation would be nice =).
My main concern is getting rid of them, period since my current setup will not support them in the long run. I hadn't even thought of craigslist!

if no one is willing to take them it may be best in the long run to cull them i know my LFS's (and any big box stores) wont take any stock that i breed. its due to possible disease problems...ironic isnt it! although i have sold stock to their a few of their employees...
