Don't overfeed your fish (the snails thrive on all that extra food)...and otherwise, I bait mine...put in an algae wafer...or zucchini...when all the snails are gathered together feeding on it...net them out...

If you keep up with it you'll always have a few snails...but you shouldn't be overrun...

This was taken from Yahoo! answers (as much as I hate yahoo!)

Most loaches will at them, and Ive heard some say that angels will eat the little snails, but you would have to be careful as to what size tank you have as Clown Loaches (the most commonly suggested snail eater) get very large and it is suggested that you have at least 3 of them as they are happier in groups.

One way to make removing them by hand easier, is to put a piece of lettuce or zucchini in the tank at night and put a cup over it to keep any fish from eating it. Then in the morning, the veggie and cup should be covered in snails. Throw away the veggie (snails and all) and wash the cup. I usually do it every day for a week about every 3-4 weeks. It helps keep them in check.

Also, depending on the type of fish you have, you can train them to eat escargot. Just pluck up a couple snails and crush the shell, then drop the snail on the water like it is food. My mollies like snails so much that now they try and turn over snails when they see them on a rock so they can get to the meaty part. Most fish love to eat snails, they just cant get past the shell.

I don't suggest adding a fish to deal with the issue unless you wanted the fish already, and stocking levels permit it.

Snails are really annoying but the bait trick works pretty well, and just remove any as you see them. Try feeding pellets instead of flakes and only as much as the fish will eat immediately.

This ([Only Registered Users Can See Links.]) is what I would do, Isn't using the search feature truly a wonderful thing?

Ive made the DIY traps, I am very happy with the money I spent on a SERA snail trap. In two days two traps have yielded over 700 snails. Ken's spirulina wafers are the best bait for snail trapping too, its like crack to snails.

if u dont have live plants & if its possible to move your fish - or treat them for something they dont have :scry: - you could treat the tank with a medication that has copper in it

or bait them with food they like (romaine lettuce) & pull them out as they swarm...could take time though...

any stores willing to leand you a loach?

I drop in an algae wafer and within a couple hours stick my syphon hose in and suck out a pile of them. Assassin snails are supposed to eat them but when the snails mutiple so fast, the assassins can't keep up with them. I had an explosion of them just dropping in shrimp pellets for my corys.

You don't want clown loaches unless you have a huge tank. There are small species that eat them, however.

i wish i had a snail problem! i actually love snails, most specifically MTS's. my one plants tank has mts and my other has pond snails. im hoping the pond snails hurry up and multiply so that i have an excuse to drag my girlfriend on an hour long drive to get some assassian snails.

overfeeding = overpopulation of snails. ive heard that piecing a piece of pure copper wire in the filter will kill them off (copper kills most inverts)
