When the time comes I will want to get into discus. I also would like to get into breeding them. Does it work the same way with angels that to get at least 6 and hope for a pair?

Yes but breeding discus is far harder because they generally only breed with near 100% WC every day, very soft and acidic (6.0 -6.4) water and need a sudden water temp drop, held for the right amount of time and raised to a breeding temp to get them to spawn. Also, live food is important and it often takes three, four or more tries before the parents stop eating the eggs and/or young. Many have breed them (I have) but it is a labor of love because it is a pain in the fish tank to change that much water every day. Hope this helps - I found it worth it but have, so far, avoided with my current mob.:22:

Fishy, Breeding discus is a FT job, and very expensive to start up but does pay off in the first few years.

I am wondering about the 100% water changes. Since in there natural environment since they live in calm backwater pools and deep pools. This environment wold not lend itself to water turnover. I also remember reading a two part article in TFH magazine and the premise was that to many or to large a water change is defeating the purpose. I currently do 50% water changes on my angel fry tanks daily anyway. 100% would result in removal of any beneficial bacteria etc?

I do 50% pwc's on the 210 discus tank every 3 days. I do not believe in 100% PWC's I would go no more then 90% on any given tank at any given time, I will be changing roughly 90% on 10 tanks daily.
The BB is not in the water, its gotta colonize to work right. as long as the sponges stay wet a 100% pwc isnt out of the question but I wouldnt do 100% at one time, maybe 2 50%'s daily.
