View Full Version : Betta acting weird

03-08-2011, 03:24 PM
My betta has started to sit near the surface of the water at a 30-40 degree angle and he is taking gulps of air as opposed to using his gills. I recently did a water change and everything was good.

My biggest concern is there's something stuck in his mouth. I saw him gulp some air and then a little white thing stuck out of his mouth. I think whatever is in his mouth/throat is obstructing his gill function and I really don't want to lose him :scry:

Any ideas?

Hm. Maybe building a bubble nest? Or thinking about it?

I've never owned a betta before so I wouldnt know lol. Is this breeding behavior? I see your previous post Rue lol XD

Yes. If the males are ready, they'll start building a bubble nest, in the off-chance a receptive female is in the neighbourhood.

So I shouldnt be alarmed by how hes acting? Cuz I have some Peppered Corydoras in the tank as well.

No. If he's indeed building a bubble nest, he's not remotely interested in the corys.

Are the cories acting normally? Are your water conditions good? Make sure first!

If your water is ideal...then a male betta will build a nest...it's a sign that he's happy and the conditions are good for reproduction.

The corys are acting normally and I just did a water change Sunday and everything checked out. My betta is resting on the bottom a lot and when he swims by the filter it pushes him down and he just swam into my driftwood. I'm kind of nervous as to what is going on with him :scry:
