I'm sick of having to buy real and fake plants and don't have to much money to spend. Is there a way to make plastic plant at home? I have a 55 community tank that needs to be decorated with more plant and I want both real and fake.
Has any one made their own fake plants?
Is it even possible with everyday household supplies and tools?

I've never heard of anyone making their own fake plants for a tank but if you had the materials you could probably do it. Seems like the materials might cost more than the fake plants though.

Check craigslist. In my area there are always people selling off old tanks and decor for cheap.

Spidy, an option to consider might be your local dollar store. You can normally find silk plants that look pretty realistic and only cost a dollar each. Of course, you'd want to soak them for several days (I soaked mine for ten days) in decholrinated water (with daily changes) to make sure you leech out anything harmful.
I have some in my tank, and my fish seem to enjoy them. The leaves move around realistically, and some of my more skittish fish like having a place to hide (until I get some rock caves made, that is).
Being on a tight budget doesn't mean you can't have a nice-looking tank. :ssmile:

You could buy fast growing plants and multiple them.

In a month or two you could probably fill half your aquarium using only a 3 dollar bunch of anacharis, water sprite or hornwort. Blast them with light and nutrients and let them grow as much as possible, then snip them to the size you want and replant them as new bunches.

I may do that.
