Name this cichlid....I can't

I got this cichlid quite awhile ago, over a year, and he is just now starting to turn colors. I was told he would very shortly after I bought him, but nope. Anyway, what kind of cichlid is he (or she)? I've been trying to pin it down.

Thats a parrot cichlid. A lot of members on here have them.

actually, it's a hybrid of a parrot cichlid. these are more commonly called blood parrots. yours has a pattern akin to a koi. not my cup of tea, but nice fish for a BP.

That's a blood parrot but how long has he been black? Some parrots have natural markings that are black but black spot disease is also known to this fish. One of mine has a black spot on his fin but he's had it since he was about 3 months old.

If the black suddenly seems to appear after a year, you may want to make sure it is normal and not the black spot disease.

They have been breeding them more and more with black coloration. I've seen quite a few lately in the stores that are over 50% black. Pretty neat looking.

I actually bought him when he was all black/brownish. He has really just begun to transform over the past 2-3 months.
