Jumping Swords?

I've read everywhere that swordtails jump like crazy, only one of mine has ever taken the plunge. I guess one other time it ran into the lid but anyway... what's the deal? I'm starting to think of keeping the tank lidless

Keeping a swordtail tank lidless is not a good idea. They jump like crazy especially when the lights go out. I've lost a few to jumping myself.
