I used white cotton string to tie my java fern to my driftwood a few months ago. Last week I got lava rock, so I took the driftwood out and left the java fern in the tank. I noticed today that my bristle nose pleco had a string perfect tied around his middle. I couldn't net him, he's too spiky and wreaks my net. I use a resin ornament to catch him and cut the string. The string was still stuck in his barbels. I had to pull it off with a lot of force. I haven't seen him since, as soon as I do, I'll report on how he is doing.

I hope he's OK
They make thin strips of lead that work pretty well for anchoring plants I have to reanchor them from time to time but they seem to work OK otherwise

Its not lead. Its some sort of alloy thats more flexible/durable than lead.

That's even better - I always felt a little funny about putting lead in the tank
Those strips feel and act like lead, but lead would kill all of the fish and be harmful to humans as well. Not sure what it is though.
Sounds like a disaster, Mom. Hopefully he's just in hiding because of the stress.
