So I used to have a snail problem in my tank.....so I bought 2 assasins....now I don't have a snail issue anymore and I have to go to the fish store every week for new snails for my assasins. They give me the snails for free, as they are just pests, but its getting a little anoying going there ever week asking for free snails. Is there something else they will eat? Or can I get an adult mystery snail or two and let them pop out baby snails for my guys to eat? Or will they end up eating the adults??

I've read that assassin snails will eat algea/leftover fish food just like a regular snail if they can't find any other snails to eat. I had a lot of pond snails in with my assassins in my 29g, but when I broke that tank down and moved everything to a 75g I didn't deliberately take any pond snails with me. So, until the few that hitchhiked start increasing their population, there won't be any snails for my assassins to eat. They still seem to be doing okay, and I've seen them going after fish food on the bottom a couple times.

Assassins will eat whatever is available, but won't reproduce w/out other snails to eat.
