I received my xP2 last night and hooked it up this morning. It was fairly simple to set up and it looks good all assembled. I would just like to say it is the most quiet thing, you can't even hear it. So far it's running great even though it's only been running for an hour but I would highly reccomend it. The quick release valve on the top is nice because the water stays in the hoses when you lift it up to fix it or take apart the filter. I am sure the other rena filters are just as good. I would highly reccomend to anyone buying a rena. The cheapest place I think is bigalsonline.com and I got the xP2 for $75 and I am running it on a 29g tank.

I am still just so surprised on how quiet it is.

My oto cats aren't liking it though because I am not leaving my HOB on for several weeks and I have the spray bar going in my tank so it's like swimming in the ocean for them.

I agree with pretty much everything that you said, I have the XP3 and it is virtually silent with the cupboard door closed, you cannot hear it over the air pump or even the computer!

The only bit where I disagree is the release valve, if you lift up the tubes too quickly water can squirt out, so you have do do it slowly, but it is not really a problem.

Good to hear. I have heard nothing on the Rena's so it's good to hear they are quiet. Now we'll have to wait a bit to see how it filters. :)

I have two XP3s. One on a 46 gallon and one on a 30 gallon. Filtration seems to be pretty good as since i have used them I have not had any problem with the water quality.

I would not say that they are exceptionally quiet. I can hear mine if I listen for it, but it is quiter than the fans on my light on the 46 gallon and the penguin 350 on the 20 gallon that sits under the 30 so I do not hear it.

There is a faint hum, but it is so small I block it out. I do however plan on getting an ehiem for my 20 gallon and will let you know the comparison between the two filters.

Hungry, try taking the impeller out and putting it back in. Mine was kind of loud when I got it so I took it apart and now it's silent. Just reset it in it's place.

So far the water clarity is good, I can't even see any small particles. I am sure the new filter isn't biologically complete so we will still have to wait. (Hobbs)

And ya the hoses did squirt up at me when I took off the quick release valve hahaha.

That's a good idea as it seems logical that it might have been jarred in shipping. I will try that at my next filter cleaning.

I too have noticed that it will squirt up at you if the filter is still on when you engage the quick release. Luckily, my education did not go to waste as I now turn the filter off FIRST. The other thing I've noticed is that you should give it a few seconds before you disconnect the quick release after shutting it off.

I doubt you made the same stupid mistake I did, but I couldn't help sharing my mishap.

Well I turned it off and then I lifted it up so I didn't wait long enough ahhaa.
