Hey all, I got a quarantine tank up and running about 3 weeks ago now. About 2 weeks ago I added pure ammonia and got the ammonia levels in the tank a bit above 8.0ppm. After having the levels of ammonia at 8.0ppm for about 7 days (without adding anymore ammonia since the original dose) I had levels of nitrite at a bit over 5.0ppm. So today I did all of my water parameter tests and my ammonia has dropped to zero ppm although my nitrite levels are still at 5.0ppm. My question is, should I add more ammonia to get the levels back up or should I wait until the nitrite levels drop and be finished with the fishless cycle?

Thanks,

Add more ammonia. Think of it as feeding the beneficial bacteria. Your fishless cycle is completed when you add ammonia and 24 hours later there are no traces of ammonia or nitrite left in the tank.

Yes, add more to bring your level up to 2 ppm

Keep them there until after 24 hours, you have 0 ammoina and 0 nitrite
