Hey you guys...i just wanna get some feedback...I have my pair of angelfish for awhile now and been breeding ever since i had it. one problem is that whenever the fry are pre-swimmers, their parents will eat them. I did some research and it says that parents will take care of them, and it also says that whenever the male is ready to breed again, they will eat all the frys and start the process over again. If that's case, I wonder if i can take the male out, and let the female take care of the fry after the eggs are hatched?...is that possible??
If so, its breeding in the community tank along with other types of fish in it. As in : gouramis, blue rams, and dinos. Please positive feedback.
Thanks

I have been lucky enough to have some angels who would spawn about every 7 to 10 days. I always lost the hatch if it was in a tank with other fish. Sometimes other fish would get them sometimes the parents would just give up fighting off the other fish and just eat them themselves.
I put my breeders in a 20 gal. high tank with a foam filter. They started up again. They would do fine in keeping and taking care of the fry. Once they even had three different batches of fry. No problem till I started dipping out the larger fry. (My larger fry started picking at the smaller ones still attached to the rock.)
Here is the problem. They would do fine as long as they were not disturbed. Any disturbance would trigger them to eat the fry. I don't think removing one parent is the answer. I would remove both. I felt they did a better job at fanning the eggs than I could, so I would leave them there till the eggs hatched, then remove both parents.
I had several foam filters ready in other tanks and kept the process going till I got tired (small fry are difficult to clean up after) I eventually sold the breeders as they didn't play well with others once they began to breed.
This is what worked for me. I ended up selling off about 9 batches before giving up. Some I traded some I sold. Pet stores wanted to give me .75 cents if I would get them up to quarter size. I would sell free swimming fry on craigs list for .50 cents. Once they began to morph into angels, I got a dollar. I raised the price up to $1.50 when they were dime size. Seems you can't buy baby angels at the pet store.
Hope this helps. I'm trying do get my discus to spawn now.

I would do one thing or the other. Put the pair in a breeders tank, let them lay their eggs and remove them - or- let them breed where they are and move the eggs into a breeder tank and add some fungal meds. Generally they will breed on a pvc pipe, piece of slate or a leaf you can just cut off and put into the breeders tank pretty easily.
You should also keep a sponge filter running in your main tank that you can simply move to a breeders tank that will be already cycled and ready to use.

Put em in a 29g tank with nothing but a heater and sponge filter, possibly A potted plant with plenty of surface area for the fry to eat the micro and macro stuff that grows on them.
Ive had luck in a community tank but the parents were highly aggressive and took over 5' of the 6' tank. Mine shut off when there were fry in the tank, When they were about 3-4 weeks old and in full angel form they were moved to a 45H to grow out fins.
