Advice on Cabomba

Hi All

I have both green and red Cabomba in my Tank. The plants keep growing white roots from each nodule which doesn't look good in the tank. 4 days back I pulled each and every root and boy there were a whole lotta bunch of them. Today half of them are back. Stringy as ever.

I have 100% Flourite. 18 Gallon Tank. 40 watts tubes specially for aquatic plants from Azoo. Other plants in are Saggitaria, Java Ferns and Anubias.

Is there anyway of stopping the Cabomba plant from shooting those roots at each nodule ?

That is there natural growth pattern and is there primary nutrient uptake system.

will happen whenever it gets over a certain height.

Only way is to keep it short

Nothing to be done but manually removing the aerial roots.

does trimming the exposed roots have any effect on the health of the plant?

Cabomba species do that when there isn't enough light. It takes four watts per gallon plus, full spectrum, light to keep them compact, where the roots only come out the bottom few nodes. Very high light + Co2 injection is how I keep Cabomba and other stem plants compact.
