View Full Version : Discus Mating

Hello, I bought a new fish tank and added 3 adult discus' 2 medium and 8 small ones. After buying them i read more about them and i got fascinated about how they breed and how they keep raise their fry.

I was wonder, how long does it take for discus to mate? I know you cant determine this but how long did it take your fish to mate? And when they mate, do i have to put them in a separate aquarium? I've read on some websites that you have to separate them, and on others that its okay to leave them with the other discus.

Any help would be really appreciated.

a pair will need to be seperated into their own tank around 20-29g. At about 1 yr of age, they should be showing breeding behavior. It might take them once to get it right or they may never get it right. Just depends on the pair.
