View Full Version : Interesting color observations in Amano shrimp

When I bought my Amano shrimp a few weeks back, they all had a blue hue to their translucent bodies (which I thought to be logical, since their copper-based blood should be bluish as in lobsters et al.), but they had also been kept in a tank with blue colored gravel at the LFS.
After several days in my tank they became clear with just a few white markings showing.
Some also showed a little bit of red spots here and there.
Now I just saw one that had a green hue to it.
Has anybody else observed color changes like this? Maybe food-related?
Definitely fascinating to observe.

I had black planted tank gravel in my tank and they got pretty dark to blend in with the substrate I think...

mine have gotten really green since the amount of moss in my new tank is higher!

Cool - black ones and green ones. The moss thing makes sense.
Wonder, if one could create purple shrimp... ;-)
