Well i came home from vacation to find that my albino rainbow shark was beaten up and killed by my red-tailed shark. The red-tailed shark wasn't looking to good either, but it was pretty late so i tohught i'd deal with it in the morning. Well i wake up to find the red-tailed shark dead too.; The only time they showed agression was when i first got them, but they were fine after they staked out territories.

Thats a perfect reason why they should be kept 1 per tank.
The little suckers may be members of the minnow family, but they sure fight like sharks.

Can you keep the same type together? Like 3 rainbow sharks together?

You could provided your tank was large enough, with enough spots to mark out territories, but i dont recomend it.

The one should be fine off. I dont think ive seen your tank, but make sure there is a cave, or another place he can go to seek refuge from the light/use for a territroy. Hopfully, he will pick a low traffic area of the tank, or something out of the way, so he doesnt have to harrass any fish that cruise by his spot.

You might also want to add some more bushy plants around the middle and back of the aquarium, to break up his view so he isnt constently seeing fish.

i had 2 rainbow sharks and 2 red tailed... they were HORRIBLE together. The larger red tailed shark beat the heck out of all the other 3.
So i put him in my other tank, thinking the rest of them would get along... NOPE.
My other red tailed shark started being the boss of the tank. He still beat on the other rainbow sharks. So now he is in HIS own tank...
The red tailed sharks are VERY aggressive to any fish that goes within their territory.
Like was said before, keep one of either type in a tank by itself. Also, red tails when bigger will kill most fish. I was told by a guy at my LFS that when red tails are around 4-5" you will notice other fish missing often...

also, like was said above, bushy plants and lots of area to roam is the best bet for keeping multiples...
If you are going to get more then one. go with rainbow sharks, they are not nearly as aggressive as the red tails.
