Alright, after scrapping the skilter idea, i realized, that i need better filtration for my 55.

Right now, i have a mish-mahs of 4 different filters.

I would LIKE a cannister, but, getting two large HOBS would be cheaper.

I was thinking dual Penguin 350s. I would like to go the aquaclear route, but the price kinda scares me away.

Ive also heard great things about the emporer 400. Is it comparable to the penguin 350?

How 'bout an Am-Top canister? They're of decent quality and quite inexpensive compared to Fluval and Eheim.

edit> Just realized they are probably not available in the US.

Ha, i googled it, and the only thing i can find is people on other forums asking about it. Any good links?

Hehe, I edited my post just as you typed yours :)

Yes, I have some excellent links from webshops in all the scandinavian countries :p Looks like a very local thingy, which is probably why they are so cheap here.

Anyway, they are probably not available in the US :(

Drum, I personally hate bio-wheels, but YMMV. I'd save up your money and do what I have in a Eheim 2028 with an AC 70 as backup. Powerful combination, but expensive.

You are trying to save money. Not sure if it is worth saving money though. What about dual AC 70s? I have them on my 40 longs.

If im going to do ACs, i might as well split the difference and get dual 110s. How much does a 2028 run for?

This is a pretty standard price for the filter. Just awesome. Dead quiet, superior filtration media options. Dual AC110s would kick butt, too though.

Ahh, just about choked when i say the price. Lets say, if i were to get a rena Xp1, along with an AC 70, how would that be?

Honestly don't know anything about the Rena canisters. Fluval will also be an option for you, but I only use those Eheims. The ACs of course are awesome. I run them as well, you can't go wrong with them.

Would a Fluval 305 come at a better price?

These are very decent, with good media capacity (6.6 liter) and comes with basic filter media included. With their new design they are almost as quiet as the Eheims.
