Has anyone had experience trying to use combamba as a floating plant?
Mine are planted in my substrate right now but the girl at my LFS today said they can also be used to float.

You could have it floating if you want to. It shouldn't make a difference in growth rate for the plant.

I don't think it will matter since mines send out roots all over the place although it's planted in a pot.

Mongobay said it can reach heights of 6 feet, so if it grows enough, you can have a planted/floating plant, all in one.

...hmm...not was I was told...I was told it had to be planted to survive...it will rot if not planted since it needs to get nutrition from the substrate...

Hornwort on the other hand...can be planted, but does better if it isn't...

It will probably die off if left floating. It will do much, much better if planted in the substrate. If you are looking fo a floating plant similar to cabomba, check out a plant called hornwort (Ceratophylum demersum) and anacharis (elodea densa).

Ya mine has already grown several inches. And thats without C02 and with a 18 watt light ahaha. But today I am getting my corallife 65 watt and going to buy one of those C02 canisters next week.

As stated above you want it planted in subtract. It will not grow well at all if left floating. Plus, IMO, it looks bad floating.
