Well, thanks to devs very well written article (thanks for correcting me on the feeder guppy situation.), I have just identified one of the fry in my live bearer tank as an endlers livebearer, Which is odd. Its odd because i have not purchased any endlers live bearers, only fancy guppies from the most reputable LFS in my area. The coloration is just like ones from the link in devs article. It is very possible that it will interbreed with my fancies, but i dont intend on giving away/selling any of them. I just thought that was really odd. He was born in that tank too, so i know i didnt buy him somewhere.

Weird.

Maybe he's just a runt fancy guppy or somehow one of your fish was a endler's livebearer/fancy guppy hybrid and that was the result.

Thats what i was thinking. Its kinda shocking really. You just look one day, and this fish is a totally different species.

I'd go insane if something I've never had just appear in my tank.

In that case never buy driftwood from Petco!

Every time I do I find some new critter or another in my tank a few days later!

I don't think a fish could come in with driftwood.

I've gotten male endlers from a red cobra tank, I fed them to my buddies cichlids because the chomp the crap out of my temple plants. The females can hold their batch for months until she matures enough to give birth, and you dont know where she's been before your tank!:help:

So youve had this happen to you too? The majority of the other babys (the ones that i havent yet fed to bruce, my green severum), look as if they will turn out to be black phantom delta tails, like 2 of the three females. The other female is a red cobra, and the male is a yellow cobra. I would like to get some greens, but my tank isnt big enough. If i had the room, i would massive breed these suckers to see if i could get a signature strain, and sell it for top dollar to guppy enthusiasts.

I took the ones that i could identify as male endlers out right away to avoid inbreeding, and right now i have about 4 fry in a 10g about 1/4 inch long, waiting for some color. I don't know how much money you can get for them, considering they breed like rabbits, and they are not in high demand, but ARE in high supply.

So, you would not reccomend me letting them interbreed?

As a general rule of thumb, one or two generations should be ok, but after that (and sometimes sooner) you may start to notice genetic defects, like curved spines and badly formed fins. I just like to avoid it all together.

Hmm, well, this is my moms tank. That is the largest tank raised fry she haves. If i feed him to bruce, none will be the wiser.

go for it, bruce will love you for it, and you wont risk raising a fish that suffers from a crooked spine.

I got a 2" Striped Raphael Cat in a piece. The people at the store I buy the wood at don't check it at all. I actually got 5 bamboo shrimp in another piece. (They put water in the bag with it so it won't dry out)

i didnt realize they kept it in water, i thought you were talking about spiders, or crickets or something. Thats almost comparable to live rock!

I didn't know they kept in water either. You got like $20+ in free stuff.

The first piece I bought had 3 bamboo shrimp. I had taken it out of the bag and put it on the table next to my tank to clear a spot for it and I caught one starting to boogie off out of the corner of my eye - scared the crap out of me! Just barely caught them all and got them into my tank! I buy all of my wood out of the shrimp tank now!
