Dumb question: where do you get points?

I tried searching around, but I just can't seem to find this info. Is it all just from interest on an amount we get when signing on (plus donations from other users?).

You earn them by posting and helping others.

By answering peoples questions and responding to posts. Then you earn enough points to buy ribbons or give people presents.
