I know that if plants don't get co2 it causes ph swings. I am getting java fern and java moss. Should I setup a diy co2 injector or no? If I don't will it end up causing the ph swings? What plant fertilizer do you recommend? It can't be anything with substrate...

Plants don't cause any signifcant PH changes if they do not get CO2. Your really don't need CO2 to have heathly plants in your aquarium.

I've had thriving plants in my tanks without CO2. Having a CO2 system will certainly help them grow faster if you have high lighting levels.

I would just try plants without a CO2 system first and see how it goes
