Hey all, today I came home to see that one of my Zebra Danios is bleeding from the mouth and he is also sitting very still when usually he is active. I researched a bit and apparently when there is signs of ammonia their gills bleed do you think that could be it? My water test kit isn't showing any ammonia and all of my other Danios are fine.

Thanks in advance,
Josh:scry:

What are your ammonia and nitrite readings? How old is the tank?

In your signature you list yout tank as still cycling, could it be possible that youe test kit is just not giving you accurate readings? ave your tried testing your ammonia levels a second time to double check, or maybe have a LFS test your water for you to double check your readings?

Also, is your are still cycling your tank, have your tested your nitrites? I have read about similar symptons in some fish from high nitrite levels in the water.

Just a few thoughts on what might be going on

You could complete a few extra waterchanges to help the little guy

Ok, did re-check ammonia levels and nitrite levels last night when I noticed the bleeding gills and there was a reading of 0.25 ammonia. I then did a 50% water change and when I woke up this morning he was floating.

Thanks Anyway,

I am sorry it does happen. The living in a cycling tank can strees fish.

When in doubt, do water changes. Refreshing the electrolites and removing trace ammonia is going to be benificial to any and all animals in your tank.

Do you have any plants in the tank?

Yes, I have 3 plants although I don't know what they are called.

Have you thought about adding some hornwart to absorb some excess nitrate? Buffering a non cycled tank with plants *assuming you have the right light to keep said plant* is the safest way I can think of to complete your cycle.
