What are some of the behaviours that they will be showing before they breed???

cherry barbs was i think the first barb, i ever spawn. they are very easy to spawn.

this is how i do it.

i used a 5 or 10 gallon tank to spawn them in.
you fill the bottom halp of the tank with java moss. so the bottom halp is java moss, and the top halp is open.

then i take 3 males and 3 females, and i put them in that tank.
i leave them in that tank for 48 hours, only.
then i take them out.
now within 1 to 4 days, if you got good eyes, you will see hundreds of baby fish.they will be on the plants and glass. in a day or so, they will become free swimming.
some light will help the fish spawn.

then come the feeding of them. they will need special baby fish foods.

every once in awhile i get no young, but maybe they spawn in the tank they was in, with the other fish.

i put them out to spawn once a mouth, only.

now with this said, there is many other way of getting them to spawn.
but this way works good for me.
in my first spawn of cherry barbs, at 5 mouth old, there was 252 youngs, of which only 2 were males.

ok well i will do that but last night i was watching them closley and the female shot out like 5-10 eggs and then she stopped and the male wasn't even close to her in the breeding tank so i don't think that the eggs got fertilized and i can only see one of the eggs left from when she laid them!!!!

The thing is i was wondering if she will go skinny like the male once she is done laying her eggs???? Because after she shot out the 5-10 eggs i went to bed and the next morning she was still the same size from when i went to bed!!!!????

So please i need help!!??

most time after she lays the eggs, you can not tell by looking at her, that she lay eggs.she will be a same size.lol
only 5 or 10 eggs, that none, there should be hundreds of them.lol

Yeah i know!!!! That is what i thought!!!!!!
Well like just a hour ago, or something like that, i saw another egg float to the bottom but i just don't understand because like i thought that the prosess only ttok like a few hours to lay all of the eggs????
well i will just keep trying!!!!!
lol

P.S.>
Should i add anything to the water or like make it darker or what???
I'm not sure but do they breed at night or in the daytime?????

Thanks

they usually breed in the early morning.
the tank should be where there some light.there eggs need light.
they eggs will sink.

Yeah i knew that they likes to eat their eggs!!!!! lol

Well i also have another question....I know that for breeding them the ph level is supposed to be between 6-6.5 and my ph level is about 8.0 so....I was wondering if there was something (other than the chemical ph down because i don't have any or i can't find any anywhere) that i could put in my tank to make the level go down??????

thanks again!!!!
:D

8.0 is to high for your cherry barbs.

there is something you can put in that will lower the ph, but unless you really know what you are the doing, you may kill your fish. one drop to much and the ph is way to low, and you will kill your fish.
one of the pet shop much have something to lower the ph, do not they.

i will tell you what will work.

pure apple cider vinegar, will work.
but 1 drop to many and your ph will go to low.

i would add 1 or 2 drops only, then test your water ph in a few minutes.
alot of the old timer used this to lower the ph.

but do not blame me , if you kill your fish, becsuse you added to much.

it work great, i have to used it once in awhile. but be very carefull.
