About 3 days ago, i bought a pair of bolivian rams from my LFS, 1 male and 1 female, not a breeding pair though. My brother also bought one for his 4 foot. and the original male i had the female in my tank with was chasing her and biting her, so i switched my male with my brothers, but his is doing the same thing. Is this a common occurrence with rams? is it harmless? or should i be worried? he also seems to go out of his way to chase her, so he will like swim across half the tank (it is only a 20g) and then chase for 20 seconds. and he does that pretty regularly.
thanks for your time

I have a male and a female in a planted 40g tank. my male almost do the same. not hurting the female but chasing her frequently. he's not disappointed after 1 and half a year. :hmm3grin2orange:
some plants and hiding places help.

My rams actually just both sucummed to injurys for this behavior. They were a breeding pair but as soon as the the brood was transfered to grow they fought. My female took a chunk out of the male right behind the gills and the male returned the favor in the females tail. I split them up after seeing the fight but they both ended upside down last night. Be very aware of exactly how bad that chasing can get.

do you think it would be a better choice to transfer the female into my brothers heavily planted 55g? and leave the male behind in my tank? or will the male that is left behind be lonely?
