Here is my 2.5 gallon pico reef setup. At the moment it has liverock, some soft/hard corals, a few small hermit crabs, some micro stars, and a Green Clown Goby. It's been running for about 6 months and seem to be doing very well (aside from the red slime issue). Let me know what you all think.

Thanks! The photos were taken shortly after the lights came on, so some of the coral wan't fully 'awake' yet! I also added a few pieces since these pics, so I may take some updated shots soon.

Here are some new ones from last night. I added some star polyps and sime kind of blue hard coral. I have a friend who keeps fragging different corals to see if I can keep them alive, so far I am winning! : )

Here's that blue thing...Can anyone ID it? I have a green/yellow one that is very similar. My friend is having a hard time keeping it, so he gave it to me to try.

very nice. you have done a great job and i hear salts are harder to keep and the smaller the harder they are so maybe ur thing is salts?
keep up the good work!!

Most impressive 2.5 tank I have every seen! I showed this to my fiancee and she didnt even believe it. Very good work. If you dont mind me asking how much money do you have into this tank? Im thinking about starting a nano reef. Then upgrading to a larger salt water tank later. I now it is better to start large then go small but it is not good for my bank account lol.

Very nice! May I ask what light are you using? Red slime is often a circulation issue, try adding an Azoo 180 powerhead its like $8 and not much larger than a couple of starbursts.

Thanks guys! Freshwater is definitely where I am most comfortable. This is honestly my first marine tank, so don't go thinking I am an expert! :hmm3grin2orange: The tank has been very cheap for me. I pieced it together from a bunch of extras around the house and I have a friend fragging corals for me (for free). The light is a 12" strip with a PowerGlo lamp.

It started out as my wifes project (she wanted to keep hermit crabs) and I decided to beef it up a little! It's been more of an experiment for me that seems to be working out?

Thanks!

How cool! The small size of the anemone-type thingies make it look like a big tank! I've always wondered--do you have to choose dwarf/small type corals and anemones to keep that effect going, like one does with FW planted nanos? or do they end up "growing to the tank size"? Further, do they ever outgrow the tank?

I'd love to have a SW tank someday...

Goes to 11!

Thanks again everyone! I need to do some maintenance tonight...I will try to get some pics after I'm finished.

To answer one of the questions from above...I try to chose corals that stay on the small side...If they happen to outgrow the tank, I know some stores that would gladly give me store credit for them.
