hi,
ive just bought a 6 foot tank by 18x18inches.
i thought of running 2 external filters(ive already got) rather than buying a new onewhich will work with the tank.
they are fulval 205 and 204. is it possiblee ot use both for the tank are will i have to do something else.
thank you lee

Those would be much too small for that tank.
Yes, with good filter media the Fluval 204 and Fluval 205 combined can support your 370 liter tank. They are both specified for 200 liter tanks. Combined their filtermedia capacity is more than 8 liters, and processing up to 950 liters per hour.
I would take it a little easy on the load though, you don't have too much to go on. I like my filters to be a little overspecced, so for a 200 liter I would use a 305.
Perhaps you could replace one of them with a 405 so you have the 205/405 working in tandem?

I would use both of those and perhaps add a fluval 3/405 to it as well to be on the safe side, but depending on the stocking you could probably getaway with those two filters.

The 305 is the bigger version of the 205 made by fluval.

I actually gave you the size of your tank in liters in my first post, though I only did a rough calculation to cm so it looks like i missed by 10 liters or so (L*H*W/1000) ;)
If you get a filter that is made for a 400 L tank and use it alone in your tank, you will get pretty much the same performance as from the two filters you already have. If I was to reccomend anything, I'd say you should either look for a filter made for a 5-600 liter tank - or use a 400 liter filter (like Fluval 405) together with one of the 200 liter filters (the 204 or 205).
Oh, and 454 liters would be correct if your tank was 100 UK gallons instead of 100 US gallons :D

A 100 gallon tank is only 382 liters.
An imperial gallon is 4.54 liters a US gallon is only 3.83, thats why there is confusion.

Ah yes, imperial was the name of the UK ones.
How would you compare the petrol prices? Quite a calculation going from imperial and sterling ;)

I'd go with the either the 2nd option (405 or equivalent with one of the others in tandem) or even 2 of the 405's.
I try to shoot for at least double the manufacturers specs for filtration on my tanks.

Good point Willy, this often leads a lot of confusion, When I was having my big tank built I posted on here I was having a 100G built, when I put in the dimensions, I was told, no, That is a standard 120G (120G US).
Its a shame measurements can't be a standard worldwide, I have done a bit of mechanics training, with that you have 3 different measurements, Metric, Imperial and Witworth, it is a bunch of crap really, and should be stanersized.
Just my opinion LOL, I have known to be wrong though, just ask my wife:hmm3grin2orange:

I think it has been. From what I've heard the official standard is metric (SI) in most countries now. Don't know about US, but I think it is in the UK. So in a generation or two we might have metric as a world standard.

Well, that is a standard 100 gallon. Howver, it actually equates to 100.99 gallons, but we like to keep it simple, so, 100 will do just fine. How big was your old tank?

my old tank is a 45gall, which is for sale with everything you can see in the picture
