Java Fern - new, leaves blotched

Well I finally went and bought that plant I was talking about. My local Petco had plenty of them, and since they were not as healthy was one would like, they were pretty cheap too. $50 for a small fern. Man, and considering they were $2.99 usually.

The plants are mostly green, but all of the leaves are blotched with small brown dots, or patches of dead tissue. Is this normal for any plant that you buy from a store or order online? Are there leaves with dead spots on them? Also, how fast does the fern grow under standard hood light and partial shaded sunlight conditions? (Tank is next to a 3 large floor to ceiling windows with blinds open during the day).

I have a smallish one that grows little runners at around a millimetre per 3 days or so... guessing. anyhow it gets a new leaf on each runner every 1.5 - 2 weeks, something like that. I didn't notice any particular change when I went from 15w hood light to 65w CF. (no windows)

my java ferns have been doing the same thing and i can't for the life of me figure out why. some kind of deficiency just don't know exactly what. all of my other plants look ok.

Mine came with a couple brown spots too

I read in AFM that as they start to have plantlets on top of the leaves those leaves start to turn brown. Thats what happened to my java fern it was having a plantlet and the leave started turning brown but for some reason my fish ate the plantlet so it stopped turning brown lol

Mine are the same and I've had 5 of them. I assume after they have rooted and grown new leaves they will look better but the black spots all over them are not too attractive.

the only real growth mine have is the little plantlets. i've seen some java ferns that are like bushes and have no spots on them. i want mine like that, not a tank full of small plantlets and spotted leaves

the black/brown spots will sprout new plantlets. I have 3 small clumps with at least 30 new plantlets beginning to show

I'm not sure these spots will sprout leaves :). I know what you are talking about though. My spots are random in size, shape and location Guess I'll just have to wait and see.
