i have a gold fish tank and one of my gold fish is smaller than all the others.
what do you think i should do?
now it is swimming at the top of the tank.
i tried cleaning the tank but it still hangs around the top.
so what do you think happened?
please reply!
i need help!
oh and my tank is 1 gallon and i have three gold fish.
Each of those goldfish need at least 20 gallons each. You are killing your fish. You need a FAR larger tank for goldfish.
gm72 is absolutely right. You should not keep goldfish in such a small tank.
I suggest you take them back to the shop, maybe learn a little more about fishkeeping - the beginners guide here on AC is pretty good - and find some fish that are suitable to your mini-tank.
A 1 gallon tank is really not much good for anything other than a single betta, IMO.

oh....
thanks!
i guess ill get a better tank.
so... thanks for the replies!!
Bigger, not necessarily better. Please do your homework and research your fish. You will find that goldfish need a lot of gallons per fish and that they require a lot of filtration.
Yes I was pondering a betta, or perhaps some sort of killi with a hangon filter.
Actually, a 1 gallon is terribly small. I think it would be a lot better to buy a slightly larger tank, something like a 10 gallon
- and I don't mean for the goldfish, they need lots of space.

Well the questions seem...different, anyway. I mean, a "pump" doesn't even make any sense.
So the question, Lawster, is this. Do you actually have that poor of a knowledge base or are you just here to waste time? If you need help, you will receive it, we will be happy to help you, but if you are here to waste time you need to take it elsewhere.
I am only being this blunt because we have had some doozies here lately.

You should also look into the fishless cycling threads in the general aquarium section and the begginner aquarium section. There is plenty of information on the net about aquarium cycling too, it is a common step in all starting aquariums. Now with one betta it might not produce enough ammonia to through the cycle off. However, you don't want to change all your water at once, only 50% of your water ro so when you "clean" your tank. What is happening in a nutshell is "beneficial" bacteria is anchoring itself to the gravel in your tank and breaking down your fishes poop which is ammonia then converting it to another chemical (nitrites) and finally that is converted into nitrates. Nitrates aren't really that harmful to fish providing you do regular water changes to your tank. But once again like I said, not 100% water changes.
