My beautiful girl passed away recently. Kiwi, the gold variant Three-Spot Gourami. Estimated to be at about two years of age.
For several months after I first received her in 2008 she appeared male, as I did not realize she had not filled out her fins entirely as she grew. Thus, the original name of Shakespeare. Once it became apparent of what she really was, female, her name was changed to Kiwi, stealing the Wi- off original Shakespeare’s own name.
However she was always my strongest fish, always my survivor – even in the face of a near certain death by viral infection that killed my other three Gouramis – always my pride and joy, always my reason to keep with my aquariums.
Yet now there’s a tank, seemingly empty, as it’s only inhabitants are nocturnal catfish, and I don't know what to do with it.
Sorry to see you gone, Kiwi.

The above is an excerpt from a small, quiet blog ([Only Registered Users Can See Links.]) I run. It was just easier under the circumstance to copy + paste than try to rewrite and have to experience the emotions again.
