Color Preference in Females

I have one little female betta, Dark Lady, and she is sharing shelf space with one of my four males. There is also a betta book wedged in next to her tank, with a picture of a red male on the cover. Lady is dancing and flirting and nuzzling against the side of her tank right next to said book and the picture of the red male... much to the annoyance of the sulking blue male in the next tank.

A friend of mine, who also keeps a small swarm of bettas, says her females prefer red males over other colors. Does anybody else have any picky female bettas?

No. It is usually in thought of who looks the biggest and nicest. Not color.

It's still funny to watch. When Lady glides over toward Firetail he poofs right out, but when she heads back over to the picture of the red male his fins just collapse, and he slinks (as much as a fish can slink) under a plant to sulk XD Poor guy

Brighter males in most species of animal get more attention. "Nicest" can and is a frequent evaluation based on color as well as shape and strength.
