got up this morning, check my computer. it told me it needed to reboot, so it could install the update for this one program. so i said go ahead. so it rebooted , and i got back online.
then it tell me it found more update, for another one of mine program. then it downlaoded them. and then it had to reboot, again.lol
then it found more, and had to reboot, yet again.
this happen 6 different times. it found updates for 6 of my programs, downloaed them and then rebooted each time.
these program that it was updating protect my computer. i only got 20 some programs that help to protect my computer. these are all program that i had brought. and oh yes, none of them is avg.
20 utility apps?!?!?!
man that is overkill!
i've got ZoneAlarm Pro for my firewall
and Symantec Corporate for my antivirus.
thats all the protection you need.
of course i have other cleanup apps, but all you need is one antivirus and one firewall. (ok maybe 2 if you enable your routers hardware firewall)
what apps called for rebooting, and whats the other apps that you have?

i had had more than one computer kill by hackers.
just yeresday, my computer came under heavy attack. it was able to protect itself. certain ones near by is doing their best to get me off line.
i do not say what program i got protecting my computer.
because every program, have it weak points.
zone alarm is a very good program, but i do not have it.
plus it a good thing my brother is a computer expert.
he keep an eye on mine computer, plus a very good friend of mine goes into my computer once a week, to make sure that all is ok.
and to used no security programs, boy you are asking for troubles.
ps. i know i got to many , but i need them. lol

certain peoples do not want me to have a computer.lol
i know you they are. my computer was able to trace it.
but as i said before i am on the net and am planning to stay on.lol
but the point is ,it make it hard to do anything with so many programs running in the background. but it still quite fast. and it get me where i want to go.lol

macs are awesome. thats one of their best points on the PC VS. mac commercials

Rollie maybe you should try a mac. IMO they are easier to use.

they are nice. my old computer teacher bought all mac's. theyre cool, better than some PC's in a way
it depends on what type of user you are. i could never own a mac. i cant stand them.
but for the people who only need to surf the web and write word files, theyre perfect. yes i know they are capable of more, but you cant deny the versatility of windows machine. plus i'm not nerdy enough to run linux.
but back to the original question...
how do you know someone was trying to attack you?
it could very well be false alarms. with so many apps running at once, you could be having a lot of conflicts. plus if youre running 20+, then theyre probably not very good individually, since you need them all in order to feel safe.
and you dont have to worry about telling us what programs you are using. only site admins can track your IP. so none of us regular folks would be able to find you. (ie, we wouldnt be able to exploit the weak points in all 20 layers of your security). honestly it just seems ridiculous that some "hacker" can be bothered to drill through all of that.
tell us what you got and maybe we can help you determine if you actually need them all.
also whats yours OS and hardware specs?
i'm hoping you have a minimum of 2gb RAM and maybe even a dual-core processor to be running all that stuff and still consider your system to be fast.

i only had a computer for about 2 years now. before i brought this new one, i look at getting a mac"s, but was told not to, because i am using it for playing on lines games, like runcescape.
i have 512 mb of ram., it a window xp, and it a dual- core processor, what more it got it hard to say. plus it a dell computer.
the first 4 or 5 good secord hard computer was destoryed by someone.
2 computer shops told me that all far as they could tell, they was kill by someone on purpose.
plus a peoples that out to shut me down, told me to my face. we are not speaking, now.
and my brother, who is a computer expert, told me the same thing.
my brother went into my computer and did somethings that make it run faster.
some peoples that come here to buy fish, tell me , we want this kind of fish, which i had never heard of. so they give me the web address and i go see what it is. and they tell me ,we did not know you had high speed, up here.
i do not have high speed, it not here yet. well they say, we got high speed, and your computer faster than ours.
Aren't computers supposed to make our lives easier? Yeah, right! Ever try to make a bank transaction when their computers are down? Ain't gonna happen!
Anyway, I don't have that much bad luck with them, the odd times it'll be running a bit slow, so I just do a quick clean (hard drive, internet browser, registry, start up progams, etc.) followed by a sweep (virus, ad-ware, mal-ware, etc.), re-boot and it's good to go.
The only thing that really irritates me is when my usual internt forums go down ..... grrrr!
On the topic of Mac's and PC's, I've owned both, and Mac's are very nice, but I find that PC's still are a little bit more versatile when it comes to personal use. Oh, and who ever says a Mac doesn't crash, hasn't had the little bomb icon where it says (Your Mac Needs To Reboot).

What do you mean? macs can run both mac os x and windows vista and xp. That's what i call versatile. And the bomb icon on the mac is so 1990's. And what do you mean windows is more versatile when it comes to personal use?
Sorry, but I feel quite strongly about this topic :/
I think Macs are great for the user who doesn't want to mess around with a lot of settings, etc. PCs however I feel are far more flexible. They are also far easier to get software for. PC is #1 for a computer geek like me.
