View Full Version : What are good tankmates for South American Cichlids?

Would like to know what fish would be best kept with South American Cichlids, specifically in a Firemouth tank and an Oscar/Dempsey tank.
Would like to get fish that not only won't get eaten or harassed to death, but also match the South American's environment. Would like a realistic setting.

Any of the pink tailed chalceus tetras or red hook silver dollars.(For south american tanks)Leporinus will worh also.Medium catfish.Specific varieties.

Anything that is not small enough to fit in their mouth's, I have seen succes with many catfish, large sharks (Bala, redtail) and if you have enought room for this, a peacock bass :D

and have money! haha the only LFS around here that has a peacock bass is $250 for one! cool fish to watch eat! youtube it!
