Hi everyone,
Been lurking for the last 3 months learning more about fish then my wife thinks is healthy, figured it was time to get some reviews on my 40 gallon long. I've had it for just over 2 months and have redone it god only knows how many times. But I do believe I've got it down to where I wont mess with it for awhile:19: .
Figured I would post some pictures of the tank and fish I have.
2 yellow labs(1male, 1 female she is holding at the moment)
1 dwarf blue cichlids(help on the name please)
1 killi wonder(the other one jumped out somehow)
1 tire track eel
2 plecos(dwarf, forgot the name and no picture)
1 dwarf puffer(I know, I know but he looked so sad at the lfs and is holding his own at the moment)
2 light Gobi's(help with the name of them please
4 bumblebee Gobi's
2 Leopard or bush fish
Java Fern
Amazon sword
Anacharius
2 others that the name escapes me at the moment
300 or 350 penguin(I think)
visa therm 300watt heater
power head with filter attachment(I really like this)
Lighting 1 Flora-glo 40(48") watt & 1 60(36") watt 6700K(I think, it came with the tank)
Pool Sand for substrate(stuff is great). The pool store said they've had it for 5 years and I was the first person to buy it:thumb: .
For those that don't use a python for cleaning your tank, you are missing out BIG time!!!
I understand some of the fish should not be with some of the other fish. Some were given to me or they would be flushed and others were in horrible conditions, so I figure if nothing else they get a good home for a little while at least.
Hope everyone likes the tank(be nice to the newbiethumbs2: )

It looks very nice, and you have a great camera.
But yes, you have some very grave compatibility issues.

very nice. nice too see someone who can have odd tank stocking like mine. i have africans with community fish, and in the past have had other odd mixes.
did you mean you have a 400l like a 100g? you had 40l in the previous post and i figured you had all that in a 10g and i almost sharted myself.

Thanks for the replies. The tank is a 40 gallon long(I was told anyways) 4' long X 15" wide X 18" tall. As the fish get bigger I will purchase a 180 gallon to fill the back wall and then buy more fish:19: .

what kind of plecos are they? im sure you already know this but some plecos get big and need min. 75g for fullgrown yada yada yada.lol
what kinda filtration do you got on that thing? to keep up with that stock do you have a canister?

The plecos are Panaque maccus or Clown Plecos
300 or 350 hang on Penguin filter plus a 6 inch long filter attachment on my power head for some extra filtering. Looking at the XP3 canister for filtration not because I think I need it yet but well because I'll need to buy something in the next couple of weeks for it or I'll go nuts:9: . Buying and installing new things for the tank is by far the fun part.

those plecos are beauts. i used to try to breed them and they had a slow growth rate. in my main tank, i had 2 commons and a clown, and they all ate about 7, yes 7, algae wafers a night each. the commons grew like weeds but the clown barely grew. you have plenty of time to get a larger tank.

The camera is only an average digital. The secret is knowing how to use your manual settings. These were done very quickly but next time I'll use the tripod for some better ones. I storm chase a lot and you learn very quickly to figure out what your cameras real abilities are trying to get good lightning shots. Here's a few of the 1000's of shots I have.

HOLY COW THOSE ARE AWESOME!
Do you use a special sensor for when the lightning strikes, or do you do it by sight?

Nothing special - Night lightning is very easy Manual focus aperture up as high as it will go then leave the shutter open until you see the lightning. Of course you still need to be in the right place at the right time:c5: . Daytime lightning is much harder to get, lots of little secrets to it. I'm glad you like the photos being out there in Kansas you could get WAYYY better ones then I can out here in Vegas.

No way. With the exception of lawrence, there is no hills to perch upon. I didnt realize you could just leave the shutter open. Thats cool.

One should not be on a hill during a lightning storm :ezpi_wink1:
When I go lightning shooting, I'll set it on the bulb setting and set on f/18-f/22, grab a beer and wait.

Could be wrong on this, but I am under the impression that Clown Plecos don't grow more than 5 inches, if that. I bought one myself for my 29g the other week for that very reason (and also because they are gorgeous and affordable).

I think they are Awaous flavus. I put some more information in your other thread.

Tank looks great.
From the dimensions given i worked out the tank to be 56 gal.
