You're right...it does look more like a rasbora...

Which one though? I don't know them all...

They do not look like the normal species of harlequin rasboras, but there are a few species of them, most likely one of the less common species of harlequin rasbora.

They are most likely either Trigonstigma espei (Lambchop rasbora) or Trigonstigma heteromorpha (Harlequin rasbora).

I think they look most like T. espei, but I will need a better picture to be sure.

are you sure they're not glowlight?

It definetly is a rasbora, but nor harlequin.

Hmm.. the T. hengeli is supposed to have a thinner orange line with very thin black line that ends in an angle, very symmetric to the orange line. and a more glass like body. They are also supposed to be very small, no more than 3 cm.

I think we need a better picture to be sure. Until then, I think we can agree that this is one of the four known Trigonostigma species, though I'm fairly sure that is is not T. heteromorpha or T. somphongsi.

Glowlights don't have that "hook" to their stripe toward their head as is evident in your picture. Coloration however, looks very similar.

I've discussed this with a friend and while we both would prefer a better picture, we now agree that unless there is more orange colouring over the gills that we can't make out on the current picture, they have to be young Trigonostigma heteromorpha (Harlequin rasbora) that have not yet reached their full adult shape.

sorry, can't get ya a better picture cause it's from the internet, lol. I just thought they looked really good in that planted setup (much better than neons but similar size)

Well, in that case it probably won't matter so much which Trigonostigma it is, they all look almost the same and have almost identical demands to their environment. Some grow slightly larger than the others. And I agree, they look a lot nicer than neons :) I keep a small school of what we believe to be Harlequin in my asian tank, although after this thread we're no longer sure tbh. I also like the Glowlight tetra a lot (Hemigrammus erythrozonus)
