At least a 55 gallon tank, No tank mates, One large, sturdy cave, MASSIVE filtration, an agressive waterchange schedule, and High quality food.

...that sums it up quite well...

The bigger the tank the better. A 75 gallon will allow you a smaller tankmate or a few dither fish. OR a 75 gallon will allow you an easier maintenance schedule for your Oscar. Do not use a tank smaller than 55 gallons. Lots of filtration and aeration.

Research the fish a bit, read up on it.

75g
canister filter with good filtration
a few hiding places
weekly water changes
no gravel, but gravel can be used if you keep it clean
no carbon in the filter as it causes HITH
a fake plant to throw around

With an oscar, there is no such thing as dither fish. Only snacks.

You can't have little dither fish...but I haven't heard of any issues with silver dollars to date...

a oscar and school of 4 dollars can be achieved in a 100g, best 125. i think large rainbow fish and giant danio may work too, not sure. depends on the oscar

I know oscars arent schooling fish but I always see them in the stores in like a 90 gallon tank doing fine w each other. There is a store near me that has about 4 in a 110 gallon tank and they seem really happy. If you have over 100 gallons is it ok to do several oscars?

a 75g is best for one, 125g for 2, 180g for 3, and so on is about good

The Oscar Pros (researched Oscars...they were Plan B...but then I figured they were too much work)...recommend either 1 Oscar or 6...

...but since no one has the room for 6, best to stay with 1.

Two Oscars...unless you luck out and get a compatible M/F pair...are more likely than not to fight. If they fight you need to separate them.

Young Oscars do school...likely for protection...so when you see young Oscars together in a tank, that's only doable while they're young.

There's also no way of telling a male from a female...they have to select their mate on their own...
