I had several tanks as a kid but we lost a lot of fish so I did lots of research before I started our tank. We have a 46 gal bowed tank. It's been running for 6 weeks now and completely cycled. So far, I've got 6 neon tetras, 2 cory catfish and recently added 2 black skirt tetras, 2 zebra danios and 2 white clouds. I'm hoping to add some gouramis and a few more catfish.
I've been good about small weekly water changes with a bigger one 2 weeks ago and have a few questions. I have a Fluval 305 filter which says to stagger media changes so 2 weeks ago I changed 2 bags of charcoal - when do I change the 3rd bag - what does it mean to stagger - will I be changing media more often than once a month? Next, the airline tubing connected to my airstone has white deposits (calcium?) inside it - does this mean I have hard water? I believe the same stuff is sticking to one of my fake plants so what's the best way to clean this plant? I'm glad this forum is here for everyone - thanks!
