So I have had my java fern for about 3 weeks now, it is in the substrate, I don't want it on my rocks =]..... but anyways, on the main leaves the plant, I see small little sapling looking things. I have heard that they can be pulled off and replanted and they will grow into a new thriving plant.... I went in my tank this mornin, and pulled off three little saplings, and they came right off, not harmin the larger leaf, with roots and what looks like a small "heart" of the plant, where the main roots come out of. Has anyone had experience with this?? I hope they grow, because then I will have so much java fern in my tank..... FRICKEN SWEET!:thumb:

Dont pull those daughter plants off too soon, its better to wait till they get a bit larger, and then you can bind them on rocks or roots as you whish.

Planting Java Fern into substrate isnt the best solution, cause it grows better when its sitting on something.

Good luck with your fernthumbs2: . Its a great plant, I love it myself a lot also

They'll just float off by themselves when they are fully ready.

how big are the daughter plants when they are ready to fall off? I have some leaves with them on it. The babies are close to an inch, with the roots being a little over an inch.

If they've got roots, they are ready to support themselves, just be gentle with the new little ones. From my experience, its easier to wait for them to get bigger, they are way easier to handle/anchor when you have more rhizome to work with.
