I was on the planted tank forums and came across this link. Some of these fish i didnt even know they were DYED. Maybe you guys should read the list and try to not buy these fish as it would just be supporting dyed fish. I'm not saying you guys arent alloud buying these, but im strongly against this and i know some of you guys are too(like gm) and this is kind of a list for me to check to see if a fish has been dyed. The one i never thought was dyed was either the gold severum or kissing gourami. Have a look:

i visit that site often and signed the guestbook. slinky_bass also had a good list of dyed fish. fish dying is pure BS. there is no point to it. people need to find beauty in the fish itself, not into stabbing it with a needle. lets go to the labs where they stab the fish and stick the @$$holes that dye the fish with a nice needle and dye them a bunch of colors, make the needle with a cm radius

I guess its like tattooing a baby in a way. I could never imagine doing that to a fish. Even if i have only had my fish for about 5 months i could never harm them, not even the goldfish that i feed to them!

and how people can dye corys i do not want to know. corys never hurt anything or touch anything. they just scavenge and rely strictly on your care to survive.

the best targets are albinos. they are a bright color so the dye will show well. they dye them green and blue and even yellow to make them "more beautiful"

I think one of the most common dyed fish are the "mixed fruit tetras". They are a regularly stocked fish at most Walmarts that still carry fish. Most people have no idea that Blueberry, and Strawberry tetras are not natural colors of that fish and some people didn't believe me when I tell them. Those colors fade extremely quick as well.

I got sucked into buying blueberry and strawberry tetras when I set up my first tank. It had never even occurred to me that anyone would do something like that. Man - people suck!

Like the bubblegum parrots. I don't know why anyone would want red, yellow, pink, blue or purple fish unless that's the color they were supposed to be. I think they look silly.

I just read that they used to colour anemones with food colouring.

The food colouring wasn't toxic per se...but it interfered with light capture and the anemones would slowly die...

I just want to say one thing. If the fishes color looks strange vibrant or man made looking it is probably died. Try to stay away from these fish.
