Some of you may not believe this but I was at an old friends yesturday and he still has his fish from 4 years ago.
It is only a 10 gallon tank and listen to what he has in it:
4 Blackskirt tetras
2 red-eye tetras
1 angel
1 clown loach

Pretty heavy for a 10 gallon tank eh? I just figured I would post it to see your guys reactions. Those fish must be stressed as hell. The angel can't even move it's about 4 inches long.
4 years!!! however the angel is only about a year old

Quite obviously the angel and the clown loach have nothing to do in that tank, unless they are very small. And the loach must feel very lonely.
I expect you told him that :)

As for the total amount of fish I'm less concerned with that as long as the filter can handle it, the oxygen level is ok and the fish don't stress eachother.

Sorry to hear that stocking list. Your old friend knows little about fish keeping, sorry to say.

my works tank is way overstocked. i used to know a girl about 3 years ago, and she knew alot about fish. she donated the tank to my work. she knew TONS about fish and everything. the tanks a 15g sparsely planted and started with 2 fullgrown black angels, a large killie, and 2 6" hoplo catfish. i thought that was bad. now, the girl i knew added 6 red platys and 2 neons. and the filtration is a aquaclear mini

That's a great idea, take some unhappy fish home and make them happy again!

take the clown loach and angel off his hands and tell him to get some more tetras!

Or, you could persuade your friend into buying them a bigger tank! :c3:

I don't know, if he was willing to have stocking to that measure a larger tank could be more of the same!

a 20g would work for a longer time, but a 33g for his current stock is best

I reccomend nothing less than a tall 50g for keeping adult P. Scalare. I also believe Clown loaches are happier kept in groups in a 65 gallon or larger tank. Since my largest tank is only 50g I don't keep any.

Though it is quite possible that my demands are higher than those of others ;)

I think it goes beyond tank size though. A single clown loach can not possibly be happy.

I know it's crazy and bad and everyone would say that is way overstocked...my point was they have been living for 4 years haha. And all he has is the crappy 10 gal HOB filter. It's crazy.
