A store my wife used to work at went out of business a while back (some of you may recall this). Long story short...We tried to rescue everything we could...Which brings me to this fun story!

They had a pair of Tokay Geckos...While we were moving them to their new home, I noticed a clutch of 4 eggs in their hide. Since I am into breeding herps (mostly Ball pythons) and I have an incubator, I decided to take the eggs in and see if they were viable. Tokay eggs take a pretty long time to hatch (roughly 90-120 days) and we had no idea when they were layed, so everything was going to be a total surprise. Tokay gecko's also never have more than 2-3 eggs MAX, so we assumed that these eggs were in fact two different clutches from the same sire and dam.

Now for the fun part...Two of the eggs hatched last night 12/28/10 and the babies look great! If I had to guess I would say the second set of eggs are about 6 weeks behind them (from what I saw when candling). Here are a few picks of them!

Now the fun part will be raising these little demon seeds! LOL! Tokay's have a reputation for being a LITTLE aggro! Mom and dad were SCARY! Either way I love them!

Thanks for looking!

Congrats on the babies. I used to keep Tokays, they are awesome. I wore a thick leather glove when I needed to handle them. Vicious little buggers.

A[Only Registered Users Can See Links.]'re too cute to be vicious. :1luvu: I can't believe how big they are. The eggs must be huge!

Thanks!

That's what was so surprising...The eggs are SMALL! They are maybe 1/2" to 3/4" in diameter. I was amazed that these guys came out of those eggs!

Really? I'd have to see it - (er, esp. since I`d need to take off my bifocals to get a good look (blush) ).

Regardless...just adorable! I`m so excited for you guys. Planning on keeping them...or rehoming them?

I was amazed. If I remember, I will try to get some photos to show the size of the eggs. I would say they are moth ball sized?

The first two to hatch (in the photos) are ours and the next two will go to a couple my wife used to work with.

I love that one staring us in the face with those huge eyes! As if to say, "What are YOU looking at???"

Those are cute. Don't you wish you could just spoil them rotten? I'm big on spoiling pets.

I wonder if the Geico gecko could use a couple of partners, LOL ...

Awesome thumbs2: . I used to have a tokay, but gave him up awhile ago. Kinda wish I had kept him now, they're cool little buggers. Last reptile show I went to, some lady was walking around with one on her shoulder like it was just another ordinary day lol, she must really love that thing to be able to tame it down like that. Their bark is so cute, though.

Thanks everyone! Just a quick update on them...They are both eating and doing very well. The day after they hatched I had to go back to PA for new years for a few days and was a little worried about them. I just left some small pin head crickets in with them and they were all gone when I got back. I also got to see them eat for the first time tonight! Awesome little guys! :19:

I snapped a pic of one of the Tokay's the other day while I had him out! This is my favorite one (shhh....Don't tell the other one)! His name is Chewy...Notice in the pic that his mouth is not opened! I may have tamed him! :19:

The other one is a little spit fire! He gets handled a little less and enjoys biting me a little too much! :hmm3grin2orange:

They are growing so fast!!!

I shouldn't be looking at reptile pictures a day before a reptile show, might end up coming home with a few too many

Thanks. We have a show in Cleveland this Sunday! Unforunately I have so many supplies to buy...I won't be getting any new herps.

OUCH!! I'll say it again.... OUCH!!!!!

You ever been bitten by an adult tokay?

SunSchein89

I have, but I was wearing a glove. He latched on to me one other time without the glove, but it wasn't that bad; I don't think he was biting full force that time.

Demjor, I think you need to open your own pet store. Cute little critters.

He needs his own zoo! That way he doesn't have to sell anyone...he can keep them all.

HAHA! You guys are too funny! If we ever win the lotto, a zoo/sanctuary would be one of the first things on our "to do" list.

Yes I have been bitten by adult Tokays (the mother of these two actually). They don't hold a candle to the time I was bitten by my adult Iguana. That should have been a hospital visit (I'll spare you the photos of that)! There aren't too many things I haven't been bitten by!

W/ Tokay Geckos, it's really all about how you approach/handle them. They hate being grabbed. If you move slowly and coax them onto your hand, you will most likely not get bitten. If you reach in and just grab them (like most people do)...GOOD LUCK! I already have both of our baby Tokay's to the point where they no longer bite at all. The smaller one still barks and gives warning bites, but he will not latch on or hurt you if you follow the instructions from above.

I was feeding the Tokays the other night and found the smaller one dead in his cage. I have no idea what happened to him. He was always slightly smaller than the other one, but fed just fine. We're really bummed over this...It's a wierd feeling losing something that you helped bring into the world. It's never easy losing pets, but these circumstances seem to make it a little worse. Anyway...That's our latest update...

Sorry about the gecko. :(

I hate these unexplained deaths. I lost a chicken yesterday. No idea why, unless cold stress got to her (the coop is heated to about 0 C). But no signs of illness until then, all the others look fine. And no point getting a necropsy. We've tried that in the past...cost a fortune and didn't tell us anything we didn't already know.

Thanks. I'm just baffled with not knowing the cause and it was so sudden. I almost want to blame it on the crickets I fed the day before, but the other Gecko is fine. I'll probably never know the cause. At least Chewy is still doing well though. He is the one I have been working with the most.
