My tanks seem to lose about an inch per day. In the winter months I topped off my water maybe once before my water change in a weeks time. Now it's like twice a week. Is it because it's summer or because I have my air stones wide open?

It's not a problem. I was just wondering.

my tanks seem to lose about 1/2 inch per day, in the summertime.

Thanks rollie. Thought it might be due to the time of year.

...normal...increased heat due to summer...increased air flow...

...all equals increased evaporation...

Hopefully you now have NO issues with static cling...:c6:

LOL Might be. They cling to the glass at feeding time. Does that count?

...only if they're shooting sparks...

LOL, static cling. Brings a funny image to my mind with fish sparking.

Hey lady....
Yea, my tank looses about half a gallon every other day, its just from the more heat during the summer! Here are some factors that can raise evaporation rates: outside temp, tank temp, aerators, filters, lights, etc. If it is hotter in the tank, the water evaps quicker! Aerators casue surfac agitaion, which also casues evap. Even filters and lights can casue it too! No worries though, it is good to put fresh dechlorinated water in anyways... i am sure it puts a tid bit more O2 in the water....

If you're running AC that will suck up the water too! I know that during the summer months with the AC going I'm having to add alot more top off water. In fact, my salt tank is gurgling as I write. (One powerhead is right at the top of the tank, I can always tell when it's time to add water from the sound this thing makes!!) Gotta run! :ezpi_wink1:

Good point, air conditioning dehumidifies the air.

That explains it. I have been running the air conditioner, too. Good point.

Evaporation in the summertime, condensation in the winter time, LOL we can't win, I'm currently having probs with condensation in my 120 (winter time here), I open the hood and water drips from it everywhere, even got into the light and blew fuses, in the process of building a fully watertight lighting setup.

You might have to remove the top and get a light on legs.

Mine all lose about 1 inch every 3-5 days. I try to top off my SW tank EVERY day with an empty 1.5 liter bottle, and i use the 5 gallon bucket to dump in more water in the 55. I also top it off during every waterchange.

I don't notice too much loss in mine, but I top off the tanks fully during weekly water changes and the lids have very few open areas.
