View Full Version : New 40 gallon long update
Well, the fishless cycle is done and the 18 (I thought I only had 16) swordtail fry are in. When they start to be able to be sexed I'll put a divider in so I don't end up with 4,000 more swordtail. I think I'm going to breed them with other color variations just to have some fun. Then I can give them away. My LFS is pretty dumb, they don't take fish that people raise nor will they take returns on fish. Living in rural America has some major drawbacks!
Congrats on getting your tank going! Yay...
...but I can't blame the LFS...I wouldn't want to take in other people's fish either...it's hard to tell if they're disease-free or not...

Congrats on getting the tank going
Your LFS must have seen the abandoned giant fish section at my LFS!

A 40 gallon long has got to be an awesome tank!
Well I have 2 of them, so I definitely think so! Same footprint as a standard 55 just not as tall. Very cool. I bought this bright blue background for it though and I hate it. Just too bright. I prefer dark blue, the LFS didn't have it, tried something different, sorry I did. I'll change it eventually to a black one I think.

The one tank I transferred a pair of angels into has black background and my one angel can see his reflection. He's been attacking himself for two days now. I had the blue foil for a time and liked that OK but I can't see using it now with brown gravel or would still be using it. Makes the camera give flash-back, as well, but it was purdy.
Good points. I thought I'd like this bright blue, but it just looks fake. I love the deep blue fade background that penn plax makes, so I think maybe I'll just wait until I find it again.
Any serious shop should allow people to take in fish, at least on returns. As for potential diseases - thats what quarantine tanks are for.
Just my two kroner
Good luck with the swordtails!

weve got 6
2 chain stores (3 if you count walmart, but we dont, cause they make me sick ;).........)
2 Marine only stores
1 combo fresh and marine store (the closest, and my favorite)
and 1 fresh/reptile store (the cheapest, cause my neighbor works their and i get his discounts)
Glad the tank is going well. Try posting an add on [Only Registered Users Can See Links.] and sell them for like a buck a peice or something, just to make some spending money.

I want Pictures !!!!!!!!!!:hmm3grin2orange:
I never heard of any local store in my area that REPLACES dead fish.
And if they buy your fry, the money You get is a joke, compared to the price they sell them...hmpf.
