... do they consume shell and all?

I had nine trapdoor snails in my tank. Now I only have five. I accidentally crushed one while cleaning the tank. Of the missing, there are no remains. I know I didn't siphon them out or throw them out with the dirty water. I watch that very carefully. Nor have I noticed any hidden inside of any of the ornaments.

They can't climb out of the tank, either.

The only likely possibility is that one or both of my Dojos has eaten them. But they would have had to eat the shells, too, or they would have been left behind and I would have found them.

If my Dojos got a nutritious meal out of them, so be it. I'm just wondering if that's how they eat them.

They will eat smaller snails whole. Larger ones just get sucked out of the shells, but after a while they won't be able to grow big enough before being eaten. I usually only find the shells when I add big ones from my snail tank.

These were smaller ones that disappeared, shells and all.

No wonder my little Dojos are so fat! And I even cut down on feeding them!

Nice to know they're getting their nutrition from a variety of sources.
