Question:

When you have plants that carpet your tank, how are you supposed to clean the detritus out of the gravel? Do you gravel-vac at all?

In the planted tank I tend to just hover a bit over the substrate and gravel vac whatever floats up. Most debris will get sucked up into the gravel vac. In any case if some fish poop is left, no worries it is fertilizer for the plants.

Debris turns to fertilizer for the plants.

Ok cool. Thanks guys. I was afraid that after a long time of no vacuuming, it would get pretty scuzzy.

Good to know!
