This is my 55g setup. It houses my new florida gar, my female Jack Dempsey, a common pleco, and the star, my male Jag. Tell me what you think, the gravel and the decor is all torn up from the Jag. I just put in the floating plants for the new gar. I want to get a red tiger motanguense female in hopes of hybridizing w/ my jag, any thoughts? In some pics, you can see my small jack dempsey that jumped out to his death. In one pic, the water looks like crap b/c i had to re-level the gravel and undo some of the jags destruction. Unfortunately, one of the former inhabitants is gone because the jag killed him after a long "pax-aquaria"(if you know what that means). This was a much larger beautiful tiger oscar about a foot long. Since then, i haven't seen any more conflict. I appologise for the poor images, they were taken by my phone. Anyway, tell me what you think!

looks good, but do you have an upgrade plan? Three out of the four fish in there are going to get much too big for a 55.

The best aquascaping suggestion I can give is to buy a 300G wide aquarium :11:

I've read that Jags can be an extremely aggressive fish. They're beautiful fish but just not my thing. Kudos on the plans for upgrading. Those are some fish that'll get huge.

agreed about the need for a much larger tank, love the fish though, and as far as re-leveling the gravel, in my experience i have found that its a futile effort, after all its there home, and with my fish as much as i want to have a certain look to the gravel, My fish will ultimately decide how they want it lol. numerous times i have tried to create peaks and valleys or level it out and they go right back to re-scaping it themselves i gave up on that years ago.

Same here, Multies dig pits, bury shells, uproot anything they don't want in their territory. There's no use to try and keep it from happening as your water would never be clear from having to level the substrate all the time and it's just simply their nature. Personally that's what I want to see in an animal, natural behaviors or as close to nature as possible. I find it fascinating to watch these tiny fish move mountains of substrate. It's stunning to see the fry moving gravel that's a full third of their body size and it's also funny to watch because of their territorial nature they'll spit substrate into each other's territory, often at the same time. Although two of the females do share the same upturned shell, on the border of their two areas, to deposit snails that were found in their respective territories.

Beautiful Fish.....Please, please, please follow through with your plans to put them in a larger home. Remember that your fish are depending on you to provide the best life for them. It's up to us, as fishkeepers, to ensure that they have the happiest and healthiest life possible while they are under our care :heartsmiley:

I just re-leveled the substrate for the picture. But i've seen evil fish before including Jags, but for jags, mine is quite docile, hes like like a mean oscar or JD, which are moderately aggressive fish. Once at a LFS, i encountered a gold flowerhorn about 5 or 6 inches, anyway, I bent down to look into the tank and he began flaring and trying to get at me with extreme aggression. As i began to return to my normal upright posture, he tried to follow my head and jumped out like 2 feet in the air. He then landed into the next tank which housed a footlong red terror, the FH then began to tear that monster red terror up. I yelled to one of the managers who moved him back and covered the tank with a sheet of plexiglass. He then told me that he had been jumping at teasing kids including a boy that he slapped in the head. LOL I wish i would have had the money for him because thats what you call personality!

As far as aquascaping your fish would really enjoy some caves to hang out and sleep in.
