FINALLY! I got it thru my thick skill.

I at last have peace in the valley with my angels. I have 4 pair with one odd male out of the loop. Having more males than females definately added to all the stress in the tank.

I now have each pair separated and everyone is happy at last. They will now all be living as only pairs and raising their young in the same tank. I will pull the spawning slate when they lay eggs hoping to not have too many young but if I do, they will be raised with the parents and removed to sell when the time comes. Mother Nature will keep the population down.

I have one pair and the lone wolf still in the 55 but will be getting a 30 gallon for this pair, as well.

I never dreamed when I got angels that it would require having 4 tanks but this is where I am.

I am just happy that everyone is finally content!

Awwww Hobbs Thank you! Angels are a species only fish? If so I could set up my 29 gallon for them! AND I COULD TRY LIVE PLANTS!

...no - Angels can make great community fish...but don't get more than a pair and make sure your tank is big enough for them...

I keep a large angel in my 72 with a bunch of different fish and he's fine with his tankmates. The only trouble I've had is keeping angels together - I'd be happy put an angel or a mated pair in any of my tanks (that had the room)

Prolly not. Different pH and angels like warmer water. As stated above, OK for community tanks but either only one or a mated pair.

Keep in mind that angels are cichlids...albeit easy-going cichlids...

Cichlids from different regions don't mix too well...and in the confines of a tank, the slower angels, with their long fins, can't escape speedier, more aggressive tankmates...

angel mixed well with most fish.

but 1 man came and brought 10 neons from me to put in his 35 gallon tank, with a mated pair of very large angel fish.

i told him the angel would eat the neons. he said no way.
so he got them and took them home. 20 minutes later phone me and say , my angel ate all my neons, i want my money back.
i said no way you are getting your money back. you was told not to do it.
his tank had no where for them to hide. i told him, the next time i tell you something, maybe you will listen to me.lol

i noticed that too. people over exaggerate about tetras and angels. i have 3 glowlight, 6 black neon, and 3 bloodfin tetras in my 55g and the 3 angels dont touch them. they wont touch the white clouds either

I've seen them chase gouramies and other angels - but mine have always seemed to get on good with the little guys!

I think it depends on the angel about them eating neons.

None of my angels have eaten neons and I have one large female that hates everything. The females fight just as hard as the males and even make sure the male is tough enough to raise the young so she challenges him before taking him as a mate.

Lonesome George has nothing to do now so is chancing the silver dollars. LOL

May seem an odd question, but how do you sex them, I have heard various methods like, from mouth to bottom fin goes straight down on a male, but has an inward dip with a female, or the top fin is more slender on a male, or one has a red ring around the eye the other dosen't, could you perhaps put up a pic or do a thread on sexing angels with a pic pointing out which is which.

You wait for them to pick their mate. You can't tell the difference with angels. I went thru the red ring around the eye thing before but it didn't hold true and the dorsal fins are the same.

You can tell slightly by the nose as it's just a bit more pointed in the male but not hardly enough to notice. Males are smaller, as well.

the distance between the ventral and anal fins and the shape of the body in that area works for large mature Angels
