I recently split up a duo of fancy goldfish & female betta to allow for more appropriate water temps for the goldfish, and he was getting big enough it was starting to get dangerous for her in there.

The female betta ended up in a 20g tank, with 3 little bandit cories and a dwarf/powder blue gourami. I had hoped the betta would "school" with the gourami like she did with the goldfish (they were inseparable). However, she just bops around in the tank while the gourami swims laps on the front glass. He's just too speedy and active to hang with her. I'm thinking of adding a 3rd fish in there, but I want it to:

- stay approx. same size as the gourami & betta
- be less active than the gourami turned out to be (he's BUSY!)
- not a schooling species/require multiple members of its own species to be happy
- be peaceful (that betta is my girl!)

Any suggestions?

You could probably add more female bettas without problems.

Increasing the cory school to 6 isnt a bad idea either. Make sure they are the same species to ensure they shoal. (melini/metae)
