Since they're being advertised "for free", I doubt it's a sales ploy -- unless they try to get whoever responds to buy the tank, as well, and other items. It does seem strange they can't just add some water ... but maybe that wording was chosen intentionally to pique more interest and get more responses to the ad. In otherwords, pressing sympathy buttons for the fish. I would hate to think it's actually true, but one never can be sure these days.

Could it be someone who has to move in a hurry and is maybe having their water shut off? Or has it already shut off? Still, one can buy a gallon of bottled water and put that in the tank -- no chlorine -- just so the fish will be more comfortable. Or, borrow some water from a neighbor or friend -- anything but let them sit in less than they need.

Makes one wonder, doesn't it!

given that it's an oscar and pleco, it could be the case that they bought the fish for a tank that's way too small for them, and that's what they're referring to.
