I have been battling BBA for a while and never really found anything that worked. I tried peroxide (locally), excel, CO2 changing photo period but to no avail. Then I was reading one write up and it mentioned something about the BBA liking the blue wavelengths of light and I immediately thought of my moonlights. So I decided to unplug them and sure enough in a week the BBA was noticeably reduced. After a month it was gone. I recently plugged them back in just to see if it would come back and sure enough within a week and half it is all over. Has anyone else noticed anything like this? I may end up playing with the photo period for the moon lights to see if I can keep them just not all night. Thoughts?

you could go for more of a white color than a blue, that might help. Are you using LEDs, or what? I'm surprised your moonlight is putting out enough energy to feed BBA.

I have these: [Only Registered Users Can See Links.]

I still don't know if these are the cause but it looks likely. I shut them back off for now just to double check

I had found that actinics are a contributor to bba for sure.

I have the same moonlights on my 75 and have had problems with BBA, I used Flourish Excel to get rid of it and found that if I quit using the Excel the BBA would return in less than a week. Now you have me wondering if my moonlights are to blame.

Give it a shot it can't hurt anything to unplug them. I did try the excel but didn't have much luck. Though I may not have been dosing enough. I thought I read somewhere that cories were somewhat sensitive to chemicals and didn't want to take the chance with my sterbai's.

Well it took a little longer for the BBA to start scaling back but it did, so there is definitely a link between the LED lunar light and its growth. I just need to figue out what is out of balance in there though because I didn't have BBA before I started adding eco-complete and new plants. Ever since that change it has been an issue. The lunar lights were installed from the beginning and I went months without algae let alone BBA. I have tried DIY CO2, Excel, Flourish, adding fast growers like hornwort and peroxide based on different threads I have read. So far nothing works other than removing the lights. I must be missing something...any ideas on how I can get this under control and still enjoy the lunar lights?
